What we publish, and how we credit it.
How Raknida chooses work, credits the traditions it draws on, shows how each work was made, and corrects mistakes.

How we choose work
Raknida is curated, not open submission. Our curators review every work and its Cultural Passport before it is listed. We look for three things: a named artist, work that is the artist's own and well made, and a story we can document honestly.
A declined work gets a reason and the specific step it did not pass. Any artist can ask for another look; an appeal is a fresh review, not a formality. Images of declined work are deleted after 90 days; the written record stays.
Traditions are credited, not claimed
We do not ask whether an artist is entitled to a tradition. We ask that the borrowing is named: which tradition, which motif, and how the artist came to it. Working with a tradition you were not born into is normal and expected.
Artists come to a tradition in different ways — lineage, upbringing, apprenticeship, a role in the community, long practice, or inspiration. We record which, as context on the Cultural Passport. None is a bar to clear. Some work draws on no specific tradition, and says so.
An artist's heritage and a work's tradition are separate. We show an artist's heritage in their own words, on their own profile. We never infer it from their work, or a work's tradition from the artist's background.
Every Passport names something a reader could check: a person, a place, a document or a date. "Inspired by Yoruba culture" on its own is not enough.
How each work was made
Studio, Collector and Limited Editions welcome hand-made, digital, AI-assisted and AI-generated work. Every product page and Passport shows the methods the artist declared, in a fixed order, none ranked above another. Signature works are made by hand or digitally, without generative AI.
Using a tool is never a fault. An inaccurate declaration is, because buyers are told how each work was made. Curators check each declaration against the work and any information the file carries. Our review software only advises; a person decides. A declared AI work that looks AI-made is consistent, not suspicious.
The Cultural Passport
Every artwork comes with a digital Passport, emailed when the order ships and sized 5 × 7 in to print and frame. It names the artist, the tradition the work draws on and how the work was made. Any borrowed traditions are credited alongside the main one. The artist writes it with us; our curators review it before it is published. More on the Passport.
Editions
Every artwork is numbered in its border, in sequence, from our edition ledger. Studio and Collector Editions may be rerun after a size sells out, and say so before you buy; Limited and Signature Editions are final. Studio and Collector numbers count the works sold through Raknida. Sizes, prices and what travels with each edition are on the Editions page.
What you own when you buy an artwork
You own the physical artwork — to hang at home or at work, lend, give away or resell as a physical object. Copyright stays with the artist. You may not copy, scan, reproduce or adapt the image, or use it in advertising or merchandise. The Passport is for information and provenance and transfers no rights. Full terms: Terms of Sale.
Artists
Every artist is named on every work and paid a 55% profit share to artists, on the price actually paid. Payouts run on the 15th of each month. Studio and Collector works stay theirs to sell elsewhere; Limited Editions are exclusive to Raknida. Artists may withdraw any single work on 30 days' notice; orders already placed and sold edition numbers are honoured.
Corrections
We will sometimes frame a tradition in a way some people within it would not. Anyone can raise a concern about a work, a Passport or a heritage description at hello@raknida.com. We review substantive concerns with the artist, never around them. When we change a Passport or description, we note what changed and when. While we review a credible concern, we may pause a work.
