How it works →
A vignette is a small scene, seen through an opening. Mayowa Enoch Aiyedogbon, who works as Ai_mayor, builds his picture around a single round window. Half of it is blue marbling, liquid and drifting; the other half is a black-and-white maze, all corners and switchbacks. Two ways of moving through the same circle, pressed edge to edge.

Around it, an iridescent form spills across the black ground in teal, violet and yellow, catching the light like oil on water. It has small flashes of orange at its edges. Ai_mayor usually hides a face or figure inside his layers. Vignette is the rare work with no figure at all, only the surfaces he uses to make them. Look closely at the line where marble meets maze. Neither one wins.
